Geothermal Well Drilling

76 well drilling contractors list geothermal well drilling among their services.

Geothermal (ground-source heat pump) drilling installs the boreholes a heat pump system uses to exchange temperature with the ground, rather than to supply drinking water. It typically requires larger-diameter holes than a standard 6-inch water well and different loop-sealing methods, so not every water well contractor offers it.

This is usually needed alongside a new geothermal HVAC installation, for either a closed-loop system (a sealed pipe loop circulating fluid) or an open-loop system (using groundwater directly). Ask a prospective contractor which loop types they install and how many geothermal boreholes they've completed in your area.
